Add some meaning to life!

This had been the key message of Dr. Kiran Bedi's inspirational speech at the installation meeting of our Club today.
Today, the youngsters have every possible means with them, but they do not know the meaning of life, she remarked.
She called upon the Rotarians to take up any campaign in the city involving all the Rotary clubs in tricity but more importantly the government officers, and the youngsters, so that they can acquire some sensitivity that comes through selfless service.
"I learnt so much from Rotary which trained me, groomed me, nursed me, and made me do justice to my uniform", she remarked, and asked the Rotarians to recruit young members especially from the Indian Civil Services, "so that they can learn some sensitivity and compassion which Rotary teaches".
Recalling her days which she spent in Chandigarh, she lamented the sheen which the city is gradually losing because of the growing squalor, and even the fading signages, which shows that the city is aging, and needs to be spruced up.
The greatest challenge before Rotary is to show youngsters the way to give meaning to their lives by involving themselves in community service.

Save a Life...Gift a Life!

Our project, Rotary Heartline, is one of the noblest of projects that is dedicated to save the lives of children and young people suffering from congenital cardiac disease, and who otherwise, because of their economic challenges, cannot afford the costly surgery.
What started as a Gift of Life Project in 1998 under the Rotary Foundation's matching grant project, has been carried forward by the Rotarians even after the completion of the matching grant, through their own financial resources.
For each surgery Rotarians and many of the Rotary Angels from the community, and around the world, contribute around Rs.65,000 (USD1600), for saving each life. This barely covers the cost of the consummables, and the rest of the medical support comes from our two partner hospitals, PGIMER, and the Fortis Hospital, who undertake surgery completely free of cost. The Club also contributes in terms of entire hospitality, local travelling, sight-seeing, gifts for the patients, and daily care.
We are grateful to the noble souls who continue to support this project.
You too can be a part of this noble initiative...and save a precious life.

Give Blood!

Every 2 seconds, someone somewhere needs blood in our country. And you alone can save their lives...just by spending 5 minutes of yours to give your blood, voluntarily. Rotary Club of Chandigarh, had been on the forefront of encouraging voluntary blood donation. And the commitment is being carried forward with much more fervour and dedication.
On 5th July, our Club is organising the first major community service project, by organising a Blood Donation Camp in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, at 9:15am. Our thanks to the Bar Association for their cooperation.
Members are requested to look for opportunities, and approach the educational institutions, their corporate friends and business associates to partner with us in this noble cause, and every individual, of course, can celebrate life by just visiting the Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre in Sector 37, Chandigarh, and donate blood, every three months...so that someone can live!
